One Stop Shop Specialising in Custom Servicing and Performance Upgrades

Dyno Tuning is a mix of science and art. The science is the maths, the technical measuring of an engine’s performance, and its possible performance, within defined engineering parameters. The art is being able tweak the engine’s performance to get the maximum power or best operational power safely from the engine without risking damage to it.

Dyno Tune Sydney is the specialised engine tuning arm of Sydney Performance Centre which specialises in servicing performance cars, particularly European prestige cars and custom cars for track purposes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is Dyno Tune Sydney?

Get the most out of your car by dyno tuning it @www.dynotunesydney.com.au

Dyno Tune Sydney is the specialist engine tuning arm of Sydney Performance Centre. Our philosophy is simple, we enjoy making great cars even better. We do this by ensuring each of our customer’s cars are tuned and serviced properly. We won’t cut corners by using inferior oils or cheap replacement parts or Ebay sourced mods’. Our aim is to get your car performing at its best possible performance.

What can I expect from a dyno tune?

Dyno tuning is essentially, performance tuning which improves the overall drivability of your vehicle; it’s not just about increasing the horsepower. After we dyno tune your car using the latest in ECU remapping software, you’ll soon experience sharper throttle response, greater pulling power due to increased torque, and smoother power delivery thanks to the ironing out of any acceleration ‘flat spots’. Along with making for a more satisfying drive, remapping improves safety in that you have more power instantly available through the rev’ range to help get out of those tight spots. We can also tune your car to achieve it’s best economic-performance.

What are the different stages of dyno tuning?

A stage represents a set of upgrades; essentially as to how far you’ve gone with tuning part of your engine. For example, ‘Stage 2’ represents a more tuned car than ‘Stage 1’. Where things can get a bit confusing is that what each “stage” means can vary from car to car, and even from tuner to tuner. But, in very brief terms:

Stage 1:

    • For standard specification unmodified vehicles, a stage 1 remap will increase power and torque whilst improving fuel economy. You’ll immediately notice more responsiveness and the absence of acceleration flat spots along with fewer visits to the filling station.

Stage 2:

    • If you’d like a higher dose of power and torque, then stage 2 is the option to choose. You may require some hardware upgrades to supplement the software remap. The improvement in fuel economy may not be as marked as in stage 1.

Stage 3 and Stage 3+:

    • A more involved remapping and tune up than stages 1 and 2, you’ll certainly require some hardware upgrades customised to you vehicle. For the stage 3 option, we’ll discuss your specific needs and provide a tailored quote.

Note: What one tuner considers to be stage 3 on a turbocharged Golf might be quite different from stage 3 on a normally aspirated BMW or Mercedes, for example. Worse still, what one tuner considers to be stage 3 might be completely different from another tuner working on the same car. The brief ‘stage’ descriptions above are based on turbocharged petrol engines. Non-turbo engines can use many of the same techniques to gain power, but without the easy power gains to be had from increasing boost. Diesel engines use most of the same tuning methods but have slightly different emissions control equipment. No matter your car’s engine, Dyno Tune Sydney is a leader in tuning cars to achieve their owners desired performance.

Can I just get a power run?

Yes, we’re able to provide a ‘power run'(rolling road session) if you purely want to know the power and torque of your vehicle prior to making any potential decisions about future work and/or remapping. A power run is a full throttle power test to measure the power and torque at the wheels and calculated SAE values for engine flywheel figures, and where possible, boost and air/fuel ratio (lambda) will also be recorded. Our base charge for a power run starts from $150.00 plus GST.

Note: “lambda”, in engine tuning terms, is the ratio between the amount of oxygen actually present in a combustion chamber -vs- the amount that should have been present to obtain perfect combustion. Depending on the vehicle, our power run price might be more than our base charge.

Do you race tune?

Absolutely yes, this is often called ‘Stage 3+ tuning. This type of tuning will take your car engine’s performance to the extreme; usually way beyond the manufacture’s engineering limits. Typically race tuning is for track purposes only, and will require modifying and replacing a number of engine and exhaust components, for example, as a minimum, your typical Stage 3+ mods’ will also include:

    • Lighter Flywheel;
    • Stronger Internal Engine Components;
    • Competition Cam;
    • Big Turbo conversion;
    • Straight through exhaust;
    • Custom or aftermarket Downpipes*;
    • Catalyst/DPF removal;
    • Fuel System Upgrades specific for ‘Race Fuel’ (injectors & fuel pump);
    • Competition ECU mods to suit;
    • Hard & Low Suspension;
    • Race Spec Brakes;
    • Slick Tires etc’.

It is essential to get all this right, because if you don’t it can be a colossal waste of money. Dyno Tune Sydney, together with our parent firm ‘Sydney Performance Centre’ can take care of all these types of modifications and tune your car to make it perform off the scale.

Note: Custom or aftermarket Downpipes – If you are looking into downpipes, then we’re assuming you already know how a turbo works. Put simply, a turbo is an air compressor that sucks air from the surrounding and delivers it to your car’s combustion chamber to create a bigger explosion and more horsepower. The true beauty of a turbo lies in the fact that it’s self-powered by its own turbine. When exhaust gases leave the combustion chamber and flow into the exhaust pipe, the turbine inside a turbo is spooled along the way – producing energy required for the turbo to function.

So, the downpipe is a pipe which connects turbo into your car’s exhaust system, allowing the exhaust gases to spool the turbo and then flow back out into the exhaust system where they eventually exit the car. Custom or aftermarket downpipes are bigger and wider than standard. This means exhaust gases can flow much easier and spool the turbo even harder, creating more energy for the turbo to suck more air and deliver it to the combustion chamber resulting in a significant power boost. Installing either a custom or aftermarket downpipe is relatively cheap and works well with other mods’ – indeed, you can expect to achieve:

    • Increased horsepower; and
    • Louder exhaust sound;
